I was once asked if I preferred morning light or evening light. At the time I did not care… But I have changed my mind. I like morning light. The plants seem more vibrant in morning light after recovering overnight from the previous days heat. Here is an example from a hike my family took to Desolation Lake. We started at trail head Mill D in Big Cottonwood Canyon. This shot was taken early in the hike.

Well, a camera phone is not great quality, but it is very convenient. I am not going to carry my good camera around all the time just in case I happen on a good scene. This scene looked promising and would have been a lot better with my good camera. It is the City Creek construction site in S.L.C Utah.

Spring Creature
While working in the yard, I met this creature. I believe it is good that the spiders come out in spring to help control all the other insects. But they are hard to photograph.

This photo reminded me of my Tai Chi, Ying and Yang philosophy. The forsythia blossom being the promise of spring against the grey rainy background. I hope you enjoy it.

The above photo is the result of a photo editing experiment. I was flying home from New York City, via Colorado, when we came upon this wonderful line of potential thunder clouds. I could not fit it into one frame, so I took four photo’s and used to GIMP to combine them. The camera had done some funky color adjustment and the color was off in some of the frames.
What I ended up doing was cut the wing components out and recombine them as each part as a seperate layer. Then I added back the sky and clouds as seperate layers.
When I had everything lined up, I converted all the photos to black and white. Then I adjusted the contrast and brightness until the layers matched. Then I re-colorized the picture.
It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot and I like the results.

Spooky Storm
As you can see the camera shake created by trying to turn and shoot a photo of lightning is pretty bad, but the overall effect is interesting. How do the Pro’s get good lightning shots? anyone?

Earlier this summer, I spent a week in Trion, GA on business. I stayed at a beautiful lodge, owned by my client company. Here is a beautiful, peaceful sunrise that I enjoyed while there.

This is one of my favorite photos. It was taken at dusk on the Emerald Pools trail at Zion’s Canyon National Park. I used an Olympus IR-500. Not bad for a point and shoot.
